
Gábor Koltai M. graduated in 2000 as stage director from the University of Theatre and Film of Budapest, where he’s been a PhD student since 2020. His directorial works include both contemporary and classical plays in various theatres of Hungary and Transylvania, as well as collaborations with independent theatre companies. His works attended the official selection of many festivals, like the Hungarian National Theatre Fest in Pécs, Theatre World Festival in Brno, Contemporary Drama Festival in Budapest, Euro-Regional Theatre Fest in Timisoara, or the FNT in Bucharest. His staging of The Danton Case by Przybyszewska won the Theatre Award of Budapest in “Best Director” category. He is a senior lecturer at the University of Theatre and Film of Budapest. Besides directing, his essays regularly appear in literary periodicals, and are currently under arrangement into a single volume publication. He has adapted several novels for the stage with Nóra Sediánszky, works as a professional translator of literature (such as collections of theory and fiction by JRR Tolkien), and wrote lyrics for Hungarian alternative band Duende. He is also the Hungarian translator of Declan Donnellan's book on acting,The Actor and the Target.
